At the 2021 Census, 25,725 people lived in Wilmslow's built-up area; their median age was 44. The town is in Cheshire East and in the Tatton parliamentary constituency, whose wards take in Knutsford and Alderley Edge as well as four in Wilmslow. Among the Cheshire constituencies we looked up, Tatton's business counts hold one figure that stands out: 75 sites classed as specialist medical practice, more than twice the count in any of the eight others.
The Tatton figures, and where they stop
UK Business Counts 2026 (ONS, published on Nomis) puts 7,715 business sites, or local units, in the Tatton constituency, and 6,980 enterprises. Of the six industry lines we pulled, hairdressing and other beauty treatment has 125 sites, other human health activities 100, motor-vehicle repair 95, specialist medical practice 75, dental practice 55 and veterinary activities 35. Every figure is rounded to the nearest five.
Two limits come before any of that is read as Wilmslow's. The constituency is wider than the town: Knutsford, Alderley Edge and parts of Warrington and Cheshire West and Chester are inside it, so these are Tatton's counts. And no industry code exists for aesthetic clinics: specialist medical practice (SIC 86220) also covers private consultants, so the 75 sites are not a clinic count. Set against 15 in the Macclesfield constituency and 30 in Chester North and Neston, the figure is consistent with the clinic corridor described on our Cheshire page, without measuring it.
Clinics on Alderley Road and Water Lane
A clinic directory points the same way from the patient's side. Its medical aesthetics listings for Wilmslow, read on 19 October 2026, include addresses on Alderley Road and Water Lane. A directory's coverage is biased by who is listed rather than by who is there, so we read this as a sign that clinics here are visible in search, and we print no count from it.
For a clinic in Wilmslow, the advertising rules come into the site plan before any design work. Our build standard is consultation-first: the site advertises a consultation for the concern a patient wants addressed, nothing in the main menu names a prescription-only medicine, and a price list that names one is reached only through a page promoting the consultation. Aesthetic clinics sets out the guidance these choices are built around, with its dates.
For a clinic, bookings and follow-up run through CRM & Follow-up in an account it owns, and SEO plans its pages around the concern, the consultation and the town, since CAP's advice keeps a prescription-only medicine's name out of the initial ad. The free site audit adds a rules check, which is not legal advice.
Alderley Edge
Alderley Edge is a place of its own, and the census counts it as one: a built-up area of 4,495 residents in 2021, with a median age of 50. Its ward is in Tatton too, so the business counts above include it rather than separating it out. The same directory, read the same day, lists medical aesthetics in the village itself. A clinic in the village gets the same consultation-first build as one in Wilmslow.
Salons, practices and the rest of Tatton
Hairdressing and beauty is the largest of the six lines in the Tatton figures, and a salon's website has a different job from a clinic's. A salon or spa that keeps no health records can run its phone, reviews and follow-up on one of our Local Business Plans, which we run for you each month in a hosted account. Beauty and wellness clinics explains when an IV drip or wellness clinic is treated as a clinic.
Tatton's counts also hold 55 dental practice sites and 35 veterinary. The GDC's advertising guidance sets what a practice website should show, and the CMA's Veterinary Services Market Investigation Order 2026 how a vet publishes its prices, as dental practices and veterinary practices explain. A veterinary practice can take a hosted plan, except the AI Receptionist.
